Hayes Forensics was established by our founder John Hayes to provide a niche litigation support service, focused on delivering much needed high quality global financial investigations.
John is a graduate of the University of Liverpool in England, and holds a BSc Honours degree in Mathematics. Since graduating in 1976, John qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1979 and is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA). He is also a member of the Fraud Advisory Panel, based in London.
Originally engaged in statutory audit work with a mid-tier firm in the UK, John gained key skills in financial controls and procedures to determine the critical elements of statistical analysis and transactional data flow in attest functions. He has been actively engaged in the debates around the role of auditors in detecting and reporting on fraud, a subject he is particularly interested in. During his work as an auditor, John was part of a team which uncovered payroll fraud at a subsidiary of a large continental European based pharmaceutical company.
After his time in audit practice, John subsequently joined Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers – PwC) where he was a partner for 16 years. At PwC, John later served as partner in charge of the firm’s Inbound International Tax structuring practice based in London, England, as well as being lead European tax partner for a number of major US multinational corporations.
John has amassed over 30 years of international tax and accounting experience, including the use of offshore structures for asset protection and estate planning. His close attention to detail and keen negotiation skills enabled John to achieve notable successes for his clients in high level dealings with the US and UK competent authorities, as well as other major government agencies around the world. By bringing these skills to bear in the litigation field, John is able to think ahead of the game and provide opportunities to litigants and their advisers which have hitherto been hidden from view
John has combined his core mathematical skills with his extensive experience in the global business world to develop an unrivalled methodology in financial investigations. His approach is based on the principle that mathematics can be used to explain anything in nature, whether interpreting three dimensional topography or a simple number series. This structural concept underpins the success of our work, which offers new opportunities to leverage negotiations and provide different angles to maximise recoveries.
